ABOUT US
My journey in Jeet Kune Do began back in 1994. I had been a student of Tai Kwon Do for 3 years, and after a chance conversation with a friend regarding the quality kicks that art offered, led us on to discussing Bruce Lee's Jeet Kune Do and the Academy in Nottingham where my friend Darren Lawson trained. It wasn't long before we were exchanging playful kicks and punches in the welding bay to convince me! - the philosophy and body mechanics made so much more sense than what i was accustomed to from a traditional martial art - I needed to find out more. Car full, twice a week, every week, we travelled to Nottingham to train under the instruction of Master Richard Hudson at the Kick-Fit Martial Arts Academy. It was clear from the start this stuff worked! Not only was it Bruce Lee's martial art / philosophy of 'The way of the intercepting fist' - but Master Hudson had an enthusiasm that captured you, and left you wanting more! He had his own path of martial art discovery to share, with any hard working students that would listen. His experiences had taken him across the world with his training and achievements, in many differing martial arts, concepts and philosophies. Please take time to view his website: www.kick-fit.co.uk From 2000 I continued my training under Kick-Fit senior instructor Darren Lawson, as a relocation and career change took me away from the Nottingham area. In early 2008 I helped Darren Lawson start a small non commercial underground class locally in Peterborough where a select few would train in JKD. I then continued my training back at the Kick-Fit Academy in Nottingham under the instructor program with Master Richard Hudson. There i have had the proud opportunity to train with Grand Master Richard Buistillo -Jeet Kune Do First generation and close personal friend of Bruce Lee. Due to personal reasons arising from work and family commitments, Darren Lawson was unable to continue to take the classes in Peterborough, so an opportunity was born for me to take the classes forward. We moved location in 2009 to Werrington Sports Center where we are today. Branching out and advertising for new students that may wish to try a martial art self defence class that works for the individual in a friendly, relaxed atmosphere that we hope - breaks the stigma of some pre-conceptions of martial art clubs.
